When I was Museum Shop Manager at The Baltimore Museum of Art (1970-72), I sold Malcolm Wright's wood-fired pottery. This piece was $10 retail, and I bought it for myself at cost ($6).

Wright explained to me that, in each of his kiln firings, he would put a couple pots in the wood, and the results were unpredictable. Some of these "exposed" / at-risk pieces survived and some didn't. I think this one is exceptionally felicitous. I also like the vase's shape, especially the foot ("God is in the details.").
