Miami modern: A Minimalist Landing, on the Beaches of Excess.... |
Chad Oppenheim, a 33-year-old [Miami. FL] architect... is attracting attention for
his retooling of Miami modernism....
Mr. Oppenheim has garnered praise for creating a cool, almost monastic design esthetic
that is in stark contrast to Miami's previous architectural excesses, including Latin pop, retro Art Deco and Spanish colonial. |
Moving beyond what Mr. Oppenheim calls "quaint Mediterranean villas," a popular Miami style,
his version of modernism is almost always white, with touches of color and texture coming from exotic tropical hardwoods,
towering palms and the skimpy bikinis on beautiful people lounging poolside. |
Mr. Oppenheim's most personal statement is the recently completed overhaul of his own home....
In the kitchen a 1940's French chandelier... offsets stainless steel countertops
