Once again, as another new year aproaches, let me remind you, Mr. President Zelensky of Ukraine, how, during the Tet Offensive of the U.S. Vietnam War when Vietcong (VC) forces attacked Bến Tre... 31 January 1968, an unnamed American Major, reported by journalist Peter Arnett, said: "It became necessary to destroy the town to save it." Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you are not just aggrandizing yourself and your cronies from this war, Sir, the best you are doing is destroying Ukraine to save it. Save what? Corpses and rubble. You could even at this late date turn over a new leaf: Stop squabbling over what color flag will fly over Kiev, but instead raise all the Ukrainian people's efforts toward realizing at last what the Soviet Union's name said but it never really was: A union of soviets: worker self-owned and self-managed cooperatives. A material not just formal democracy. A country where democracy no longer stopped at he workplace door, where the promise of the U.S. Declaration of Indepencence that "all men are created equal" would fully be actualized in worker self-owned and self-managed cooperatives, and no persons would any longer be oppressed by a boss, either the capitalist or the socialist kind (see: Prof. Richard Wolff, democracyatwork.info) You, Mr. Zelensky, could make Ukraine a "neutral" country, friendly to both The West and Russia and anybody else who wanted to conduct business with you as peers in mutual respect in a multipolar world. And the citizens would govern themselves in the places they spend the best hours of the best days of their lives: not the voting booth but the workplace. "We need more" That was your General Valery Zaluzhny, but it could just as well have been yourself, Mr. Zelensky. You have always been wanting MORE. You whine all the time about needing MORE weapons. You wouldn't need anything if you had just gone through with the peace treaty you were going to sign at the end of March 2022. But no, Messrs. Biden and Johnson promised you everything and you couldn't resist temptation, even though a sensible person would have figured better a bird in the hand than two in the Bush --> sorry there, I slipped up and referred to Mr. Biden's predecessor Mr. George W. Bush who started this mess in 2008 in Bucharest by belching out that Ukraine would become NATO. He was almost as stupid as Mr. Biden, but at least he was old money. Declare an unconditional in-place ceasefire of all your forces, now, Mr. Zelensky! Order them henceforth to fire only if fired upon. Tell Vladimir Putin you are ready to negotiate, without preconditions. You know you have lost a war you could never realistically have won. End the war, make Ukraine neutral and get on with a peaceful Europe doing business with Russia. Putin is a nationalist not an imperialist; Russia does not threaten Europe. We need to all live together even if we don't like Russia's government. Today is Tuesday, March 19, 2024, day 755 of this mad (Mutual Assured Destruction) folly which, had we engaged in open-minded dialog aiming at mutual understanding, negotiating in good faith with Russia, would never have needed to start.
