HTML 4 Strict test page (Images without borders...)

I originally worked up this page and its predecessor, html4test0.html, around 22 August 1998 . I have revisited these pages in 2008, and tried to learn a little more about  Strict HTML , and  Cascading Style Sheets , both of which I remain less than enthusiastic about.

There seem to be a lot of CSS properties that do not work in Netscape  Communicator 4.05 , and some of the things that work there don't work (or work differently) in Microsoft  Internet Explorer 4.01 . Further: there's the problem of what this stuff looks like in Netscape  Navigator 3.04 , since, e.g., one cannot validly code align=right in a  <img>  tag....

How do you get rid of the box around a clickable image? We found a way that works in  Internet Explorer 4.01 , but not in  Communicator 4.06 :  IMG { border: 0px } . In addition, valign=bottom on  <td>  tags works differently in the two browsers, and the CSS padding-bottom: attribute for  <img>  tags seems to be ignored in  Internet Explorer 4.01 . This is not very satisfying.

Test paragraph 4:

Let's try a popup window, showing a web page I did about airport baggage handling. Did it work? Did it pass HTML 4.0 Strict validation? Note also that the <b> style element is still OK in HTML 4.01 strict.

April 2008 addition: If you would like to examine an XHTML page, I reworked my Homepage as valid XHTML 1.0 transitional, at: welcome-XHTML.html.
