To be male is to be marked for work and war. To be female is to be marked for pregnancy and childbirth. Men's lives are wasted in work and in war; women's lives are wasted in pregnancy. I have no wish to be part of any of this, but it is what it is. I want to see what is trying to be done to me even if I can't stop it. At least I don't fall for it: "Give me more, please!. Thank you."
I never wanted to work and certainly not to fight; if I was a woman I would not want to subject my body to pregnancy and its denouement and sequelae. Jünger tells the callous truth about work and war; he does no paint it pretty. I don't know who writes about women's purpose, except for one short Letter to the Editor of The New York Times newspaper: here. Of course they don't tell you what they are doing with/to you because if you don't know you are going anywhere you can't choose and say: "Hell, no: I won't go!" Know your enemy: the society that [re]produced you.
The net: War is bad because it causes pain and suffering. Work is bad in part because it is necessary labor not culural formation, but in other part becaue it is hierarchical: some giviing orders and other obeying orders not peers cooperating in mutual respect.
It's all bad but usually it's either conveniently unnoticed or at least pretended to be unnoticed, or sugar coated. Jüunger smells to me like he tells it straight. I want to see as clearly as posible and as deeply as possile how bad it is or can be. His work is not popular among those persons whom U.S. Assoc. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas calls: hypocritical liberals. Jü promises to not be a smiling face.

The war in Ukraine continues: World War I all over again for the men disposed of on the line of control. Damn the beneficiaries of wasting them, the non-combatants who send them to fight, suffer and die: the Leaders and their familiea and friends, all the people who can't wait until I am certified dead by two physicians to eat me. Patience is a virtue.
