More perspectives on communication

"When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak, for we were not meant to survive." (Audre Lorde, via Marco Romano)

Talk about non-verbal communication (above)? But it can get even worse (below), can't it?

In the first picture, at least it's a level playing field. In the second picture, it's like Mr. Putin could shut America's Commander in Chief down with just one mouse click → Cat and mouse, and Mr. Biden is the mouse, yes? Reminiscent of the classic New Scientist cartoon of Albert the Laboratory Rat, where Albert becomes the Lab Director and subjects the former [human] Director to a Milgram experiment behind a one-way mirror. Does one really need many words to describe these two pictures? Isn't the nonverbal communication deafening? But at least it's still, as Winston Churchill said about verbal communication:

Jaw, jaw is better than war, war.

My (BMcC[18-11-46-503]) idea of good nonverbal communication is below. Although I would give one more foot of social distancing than in the present picture.

The Japanese nonverbal communicaiton custom of bowing when meeting another person in a social situation.

This is Japan, a land of respectful people. Now, of course, things are rarely simple although propaganda and beliefs generally are. Either party in this most respectful conversation could be about to give the other bad news, for instance, that they have called in debts which the other has no means of paying, so the receiver of the bad news should jump off the ledge, while the young lady would carefully record the thus completed business transaction.

Arigato.

Some paralogisms of communication

You are insane: We need to cure you!!
Person #1You are insane. We need to cure you.
Person #2I am not instane. I do not need to be cures. I am fine as I am.
Person #1That shows you re insane. One symptom of finsanity is the person does not realize they are sick. We need to cure you.
Person #2 [Exasperated...] OK. I'm insane.
Person #1That's what I originally said. Very good. Now you agree: You are insane and we need to cure you..
Human reason is fallible: Trust in God's word!
Person #1Human reason is fallible. Trust in God's word.
Person #2Who says so?
Person #1God says so.
Person #2You mean your fallible human reason has decided to trust God's word? You said human reason is fallible, so you can't be sure of amnything, including, then that you should trust in God' eod.Yes?
Person #1Well, I never thought of it that way.
Person #2That' sOK. I just wanted to make sure you understood who was calling the chots, not God but you and since your reasi=n is fallible you always may be making mistakes including trusting God's word if that's what you decide to do..
Person #1That wasn't what I meant.
